Panasonic has released a beta software program for Windows is based on LUMIX Tether (Ver.1.7) with an additional display option for live streaming. When greater bandwidth is required, such as when using remote shooting or transferring images, the Bluetooth connection can then instruct the camera and smart device to connect via Wi-Fi. As is the standard nowadays, the Lumix Sync app takes advantage of a low energy Bluetooth connection between the smart device and camera. One of the reasons for a completely redesigned app is no doubt to take advantage of connectivity improvements in both cameras and smart devices.

Begin by downloading the Lumix Tether application from the Panasonic website. While Panasonic is more recognized for its mirrorless technology, it has produced some DSLRs compatible with Lumix Tether as well. Lumix Tether is compatible with a wide range of Panasonic Lumix models. After capturing an image, you can instantly review it on your computer, making it easier to spot any issues and adjust your settings before the next shot.

• After a few moments the connection should be made and the app will alert you that the connection has been successful.
• Although some say this is not the most elegant solution, Panasonic states that  it “may help user convenience in the growing self-streaming opportunities.”
• After installation, users will need to connect their compatible Lumix camera to the computer via USB or Wi-Fi, depending on the model’s capabilities.
• Within the image section menu there is the option to select multiple images for transfer, and you can also apply a 0-5 star rating to images, either individually or to a selection.

To top off the excellent remote shooting experience, the shutter button is responsive. The layout of the app is clear and straightforward to understand, and you can even switch to a Quick Menu style display. Panasonic Lumix Sync offers some of the best remote shooting features we have come across so far. It should be noted that by default there is no password for the Wi-Fi, and whilst the chances of someone managing to connect to your camera are slim, setting up your own password is a good idea.

So, the first thing you’ll need is an HDMI-to-USB capture device (link to Adorama) to send the image captured by your camera directly to your PC. All you need is a free piece of software like OBS, SparkoCam, or CamTwist and (for the best experience) an HDMI to USB capture device to pair your DSLR to your PC. You can use your DSLR or mirrorless camera as a webcam for streaming. If Allow Others to Join is turned on in Personal Hotspot settings, but Personal Hotspot isn’t working, make sure that you’ve installed the latest software updates for each device, then restart each device and try again. The camera won’t automatically be detected as a webcam in apps like Zoom.
